The main component of the MPIO One is the flash memory-based PMP (3.1 x 5.5 x 1.4 cm and 28 g), which plays most music formats and shows images in JPEG, BMP and GIF formats as well as video files, according to the manufacturer. The PMP's flash memory comes in 256MB, 512MB and 1GB versions. Users can connect their PMP with the portable 20GB hard drive (HDD) or the CD-ROM drive using the USB host, which complete the MPIO One. The main component then functions as a remote control.
The five-direction navigation button allows users to easily move through the menu and the individual commands, which are displayed on the 2.54-cm colour OLED LC screen. Because the screen requires no background lighting, it contributes to the already long maximum Lithium-Polymer battery time of more than 15 hours. In addition, the MPIO One has an FM tuner and can record voice and music. 3D sound effects and 8-mode EQ provide for customisable sound quality.
MPIO One supports Windows and Mac operating systems as well as music platforms like Napster, MSN, Real Networks, Music One and Music Match. The device also uses the various Digital Right Management (DRM) options. This all-rounder comes in a shiny black and silver coloured aluminium housing and should be available from the middle of May 2005. The price has not yet been set.
