CeBIT: AIM to squeeze into Blackberry

Research In Motion is expanding its cooperation with AOL

Martin Fiutak, 16.03.2005

Research In Motion (RIM) and America Online would like to offer instant messaging on Blackberry. In addition, the IM client from AOL will also be supported by the Blackberry wireless platform.

At the moment, RIM offers Blackberry users access to AOL mobile mail services, but in the future, Blackberry users will be able to send and receive instant messages via the AIM and ICQ networks.

"Given the growing use of instant messaging, we are looking forward to working with America Online," said RIM Chairman, Mark Guibert, speaking at CebIT in Hanover this week. The AIM and ICQ services for Blackberry will be available for AOL-authorised network operators. Users can inquire with their carriers regarding availability and costs.
